TWO pints a day keep you healthier than being teetotal and do NOT create a beer gut, a study found.
Up to four units a day of wine or spirits for men and two for women also do the trick.
Deaths from coronary heart disease — Britain’s biggest killer — would soar by 80,000 a year in America if drinkers packed in booze. Light drinking also wards off Type 2 diabetes.
The US National Institute of Alcohol and Alcoholism analysed mountains of previous research.
Its scientists concluded the biggest risks are liver disease and accidents.
They did not find a link between booze and fat.
But they warned: “A moderate drinker may lower his risk of heart disease only to die of cirrhosis.”
